EXTINCT ANIMALS
Extinct animals means that animals are no longer alive. They
disappear and die out. When the environment changes, they
cannot adapt themselves to the environment. Every animal
has its own story. The Kids of Gordion found the the trace
of some of them.
Abrictosaurus

It lived in the early Jurassic Period, appoximately 200 to
190 million years ago.
Ambulocetus

It was a walking whale, lived 50 - 49 million years ago. It
shows how whale evolved from land-living animals.
Auckland Islands Merganser

The bird was not flightless, but rather hard to flush; it
preferred to hide between rocks when pursued. The last
sighting was of a pair shot on January 9, 1902.

It was a very large type of cattle that became extinct in 1627.

Caribbean Monk Seal

It is a considered extinct species of seal. It is the only seal
ever known to be native to the Caribbean sea and the Gulf of
Mexico. The last recorded sighting occurred in 1952.
Ceratosaurus

It was a large predatory dinosaur from the late Jurassic
Period.
Crescent Nail-tail Wallaby

It lived in the woodlands and scrubs of the west and centre of
Australia until 1956.
Cuban Red Macaw

It is an extinct parrot that formerly occurred on Cuba and
the Isla de la Juventud until the late 19th century. The
Cuban Red Macaw was reasonably common around 1800.
During the early 19th century, the human population in its
home range increased dramatically, leading to widespread
deforestation. The bird was also hunted for food despite the
fact that its meat tasted bad, and nests were plundered or
disturbed to acquire young birds to keep as pets.

Laysan Rail

It was a tiny inhabitant of the Northwest Hawaiian Island of
Laysan. It became extinct due to habitat loss by feral rabbits,
and ultimately World War II.
Lord Howe Swamphen

It was a large bird in the family Rallidae endemic to Lord
Howe Island, Australia. It became extinct in the early 19th
century.
Mariana Mallard

This species is an interesting example of hybrid speciation. It
became extinct in 1981.
Mammoth

They were herbivorous dinosaurs that lived 70 to 65 million

Schomburgk's Deer

This deer was endemic to Thailand. The wild population of
Schomburgk’s deer is thought to have died because of
overhunting in 1932, with the last captive individual being
killed in 1938.
